Child Care Workforce When Cherry Jones isn't teaching Jaylen how to write his numbers or helping Aniya put on her shoes, she's recruiting foot soldiers for a fight.

"Any day care provider I can possibly see or find, I talk to them about getting into the union," says Jones, 45, who has run a licensed day care out of her Dolton, Illinois home for eight years, and has been working to build up the union (SEIU) that represents them for the last three.

"We're fighting for higher wages and health care. And respect, basically."
