Businesses have a stake in early childhood development

Child Care Workforce Minnesota's business leaders forcefully entered the education policy debate nearly 20 years ago. The result? Schools started doing things differently, including establishment of enrollment choices for parents and their kids, clearer assessments of how well kids were learning and the adoption of charter schools where students, educators and parents develop independent, publicly funded schools largely unfettered by traditional regulations.

Clearly, the competitive marketplace became a big part of public schools charged with educating Minnesota youngsters from kindergarten to grade 12.

Two recent studies have suggested that business may need to concern itself with building learning systems for even younger children.
