Bills Would Set Registries for Care Workers

Two bills that passed the Oregon House on Monday would create ways to ensure safe after-school care providers and child-care volunteers.


House Bill 2987, which went to the Senate on a 48-10 vote, would establish a program to register small after-school care providers that currently operate with little regulation. It would require criminal background checks on employees, staff and volunteers who care for children and includes a parental notification provision.
