A new state program is aimed at helping working parents who suddenly find themselves out of work.
Losing a job is tough, especially when you have a family to support. But with the help of the stimulus plan, the state of South Dakota is about to make it a little easier.
"The program was developed to help parents who've recently lost their jobs and can't afford child care," Department of Social Services Tarah Jahnig said.
The South Dakota Department of Social Services and the Department of Labor are teaming up to help lift some of the stress.
"Will really help them focus on their job search and not have to worry about child care or who is looking after their kids while they are looking for new employment," Jahnig said.
The program is offering parents certificates which are good for up to two months of free child care.
"We hope people do take advantage of it. It's a great program and it could definitely benefit a lot of families in South Dakota," Jahnig said.
Parents must be looking for work to qualify. They'll also factor in your current household income.
"It's possible, if only one parent in the home is employed that you could still be eligible for the program," Jahnig said.
