PHOENIX, NY (WSYR-TV) -- Dozens of families in Oswego County will now have to look for new daycare providers.  Come the end of this month, Phoenix Children's Center will close its doors for good after two decades of business in the village.

“There was always the noise of children, the sound and the joy of children everywhere on this side Monday through Friday,” Administrative Council Chairperson Judy Craigmile said.

Connie Seifert is the pastor at First United Methodist Church in Phoenix, where the daycare has operated for 20 years.  She says the children have become part of the church.

“It'll be sad to hear quiet and see the emptiness,” Seifert said.

The center’s board of directors were forced to make a tough decision this year.  The daycare has struggled to keep the level of staffing required by the state and enrollment has been declining over the years.
