PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Governor Rounds says a new program begins June 1 that will provide child care help for recently unemployed South Dakotans while they search for work.
It will be funded by federal economic stimulus money and administered by the state Department of Social Services along with the state Labor Department. The U.S. Department of Human Services is giving South Dakota $5.4 million for temporary child care assistance.
In a release, the Social Services Department says the program will offer eligible South Dakotans certificates redeemable for up to two months of free child care.
