CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) ― Wyoming Business Council staffers have recommended that the council's board reject a $3 million grant request for a publicly funded child-care center in Cheyenne.

The recommendation reverses one made by staffers in May. In the new report, the council's staffers agreed with opponents of the Laramie County Early Childhood Education Center, saying it would create an oversupply of preschool and toddler day care slots, resulting in direct competition with existing day care providers.

Supporters of the plan say the center would offer extended hours for shift workers and have a nationally accredited curriculum — two things not currently available in the city.
