Beginning today, Washoe County's child care inspection reports will be available to the public online.

While Washoe County isn't the first licensing agency in the country to make their inspections available online, it is a first for the state of Nevada, said Alice LeDesma, coordinator of the child care services division of the Washoe County Department of Social Services.

The reports can be found online at http://childcareinspections.washoecounty.us .

LeDesma said transparency is one of the "quality indicators" for child care and licensing standards frequently cited by parents and members of the public.

Inspections completed within the past year will be posted, as will all future inspections.

Inspection reports were previously available to the public by contacting child care services, but providing the information online makes it more convenient.

"I think it will be helpful for parents, and I think it can also be helpful for child care providers, too," said Bette Katz of the Children's Cabinet, a resource and referral agency.
