The state is to receive $18.6 million to help provide child care services for working families in New Mexico.

The funds come from the U.S. Department of Human Services, according to U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall, and come from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The state will provide vouchers to families for child care and to provide access to care through contracts with child care centers or invest in quality improvements.

“Quality child care can be very costly and can be an obstacle for parents who work outside the home,” said Bingaman in a prepared statement.
