A Fargo lawmaker pushed for a bill on Tuesday to establish an advisory board to advise and recommend policy for North Dakota day-care providers.
Rep. Rick Berg, R-Fargo, told the House Human Services Committee that the bill would set up a seven-member committee made up of four representatives from private day cares and three from nonprofit day cares.
Berg said the board would review North Dakota day-care policy and submit its recommendations to the state by August 2010, adding the state already has 24 professional boards for other industries.
"I think it's about time that we think about providing that empowerment and interaction to day-care providers," Berg said.
A fiscal note attached to the bill also would provide $15,000 from the general fund to help compensate the board members, who would be nominated by the governor.
