It is a pretty sad situation when we cannot trust our “licensing” board to even do a minimal background check on people applying for a license to care for our children in day cares. Definitely, more needs to be done in the way of passing guidelines on who can become licensed to care for kids.
If families cannot find safe child care, who will perform those working moms’ and dads’ jobs? Just because a person doesn’t have young children of their own who need child care doesn’t mean this issue doesn’t affect them. Who will perform your needed surgery when there are not enough nurses, doctors or any other very important health care professionals because they cannot find someone they can trust to care for their children? Do you want to stop receiving mail or FedEx, UPS or DHL packages because there aren’t enough people to do the work? What about your phone service, electricity, water supply, gas stations? What about your food you get in the restaurants or grocery stores?
People who have young children work in all these professions and more. Everyone, even those people without young children, need these services to function in their daily lives.
This is not an issue just for families with young children; it is an issue for all of us. It’s an issue everyone has a responsibility to care about, as these young children will grow up one day to maybe be your future doctors, lawyers, nurses or even president.
We should all care about how our future (our young children) is being taken care of.
