Working families now have another resource to help them cover the cost of high-quality child care. Child Care Services Association is now providing financial assistance to help connect Durham County families with high-quality care in 3, 4 and 5-star child care facilities. This new program, the Smart Start Child Care Scholarship Program, is funded through Durham’s Partnership for Children, a Smart Start initiative, and is designed to complement the child care subsidy program administered by Durham’s Alliance for Child Care Assess.

To qualify for a scholarship, children must be age birth – five years old and parents/guardians must be working, looking for work or attending school. Parents/guardians who are unable to work due to a disability or who have a child with a documented developmental need may also qualify to receive a scholarship. The yearly and monthly income eligibility requirements for families are:

Family size      Maximum yearly income    Maximum monthly income
Two                        $36,943                             $3,079
Three                      $41,560                             $3,463
Four                       $46,178                             $3, 848
