Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon released a statement this afternoon directing the state Department of Health and Senior Services not to follow through on a Thursday state Board of Health recommendation rescinding hundreds of rules governing the operation of faith-based child care centers in the state.
The board recommended yesterday striking the rules over license-exempt child care centers after officials with the Department said it lacked statutory authority to enforce them.
The rules rescinded everything from toilet training practices and staff training to a clause forbidding the use of alcohol and illegal drugs.
Nixon said the board’s vote yesterday was only a recommendation, and that the rule revisions would have had to gone through a state rule-making process.
