OSWEGO -- A state-funded day care program in Kendall County has opened for the summer, and is taking applications for children of migrant or agricultural workers.

Del Valle Migrant Head Start, 6550 Ridge Road, formerly Plainfield Road, is going on its 20th year in operation. The nonprofit is a full-day Head Start program licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services.

It provides free educational and day care programming to children ages 6 weeks to 6 years old whose parents work on farms, nurseries or in other agricultural settings every summer. It also serves children with disabilities. To be eligible for the program, the family must receive the majority of its income from agricultural work, and meet income guidelines.

Del Valle offers day care for as many as 59 children. Disability services also are available to children with autism; emotional or behavioral disorder; health impairments; hearing impairments; learning disabilities; mental retardation; speech impairments; and other problems.
